Little fern suffering

Hi everyone! My little fern doesn’t seem to be doing so well. This picture was taken after trimming away the dead bits (about 1/3 of the plant) and scooping off some mold from the top. It was doing well about a year ago when it was in a glass hanging planter, but it fell and shattered, so I rehomed it. Ever since I repotted it, it takes a long time to absorb the water. I’m not sure where I went wrong, any ideas?

    Perhaps when the pot broke and you repotted, much of the root mass was removed. This might explain why it no longer takes up as much water. 

    Does that pot have drainage holes? Is it too big for the plant? If the plant is sat in saturated compost the roots will not grow as they should.
