  • Dee that's really great advice!  Thank you. I was thinking of a straight sided pot, but that is really good to know and I would love to see a photo!
    Thank you

We have Arrow bamboo, bought from B&Q,  in a container which my OH made from decking boards.  The depth is about 60cm, width about the same and it's about 170cm long. It sits against the south facing side of the conservatory to provide some shade. It's been in about 4 years and gets little attention, I do water it in summer but that's about it.  It gets buffeted by strong winds so sometimes looks a bit ragged.  I think to divide it the container would have to be dismantled. My eldest son lives in Australia and in his garden they can grow huge.  We tried to get rid of one near the house and it was impossible, even setting it on fire didn't work, they say that the only way is with a digger!

You can get bamboo which gets yellow canes (once mature) which might fit in well with your grey scheme.
North East Somerset - Clay soil over limestone
  • Thank you Lizzie    I'll consider that detail when looking at Bamboo options
