Potatoes

After putting a potatoe in each sack to grow it poured with rain.  The sack is now soaking and the compost is extremely wet will the potatoes grow or is it too cold and wet to survive. Suggestions please do I start again with new compost and put in Greenhouse until the heavy rain decides to cease.

have you poked holes to let excess water out?
Potatoes grow well in heavy clay soils and in Scotland and Ireland where they're regularly in wet soil. So long as it's not  permanent ,standing water they should be fine

The sacks were from GW Magazine they were holed for drainage but the container I put them in was not. I have moved them and the water is pouring out.  I will top them up and wait and see. Thanks very much for advice.

There is little point in having the potatoes in sacks with drainage holes if they are then going to be placed in containers which have none.  They are likely to become waterlogged, as you have discovered.  Is it possible to either put holes in the base of the container to allow it to drain, or not put them in the container at all?
