I have lavender with roses... I'm not sure about that report, maybe some truth in it, but aphids are nothing to worry about... healthy roses just grow through them... I never spray anything here...  I think it's going to look great !..

A cheaper alternative for your bed, if there's still time, is to buy those cheap body bag roses from places like Aldi or some other outlet... I tend not to buy these but I'm not totally averse to them...   and infill with cheap annuals.. my favourite for this is the common white bedding begonia.. I only use the white one because I think they look like little white roses... but other annuals too...  5 roses to the bed with some infill annuals...

The bed at the allotment is only for cutting really and it’s pretty full I think too full! Will be moving some into my new barrels. Found a place that does barrels pretty cheap it’s a 2 hour drive but hubby seems keen, he hates the plastic pots I currently have and loves the idea of roses in the garden so think we will be filing up the van! I will also need several trips to DA in June and July to get the roses I choose. Of course we have to have lunch and delicious home made cakes, I really make sacrifices for my garden! It won’t be a cheap option but my garden is my one indulgence really, and I never grudge it a penny! Thanks again for your advice I will post pictures in the summer.
