Help identify this plant?

Posts

  • If you could help identify this plant we would be very grateful. Its starting to brown so we think we're not taking care of it properly. Care tips would be helpful too!

First glance made me think a calathea of some kind.
Had a google and calathea rufibarba looks very similar.

I agree with Kitty2, it looks very much like Calathea Rufibarba. I had a look around and it seems to do well in indirect light and prefers warm to humid conditions. Yours look very well. I don't think they flower all that often.

Definitely Calathea Rufibarba or one of it close cousins the picture below is ours and is in flower just now.

They like to grow in a warm room away from cold draughts and radiators, with a constant temperature above 16C (60F) ideally 18C (65F) - 24C (75F) in a bright but lightly shaded spot, well away from the direct glare of the sun.

Water it between spring and autumn using tepid rainwater allowing the pot to drain well after each watering. In winter, reduce watering but do not allow the compost to completely dry out feed regularly between March and September when it's in active growth it will appreciate a humid atmosphere, if you can stand it on a tray filled with pebbles and water. As the water evaporates it will increase humidity around the plant.
