Is this anything to do with my Asparagus or is it a weed?

Was weeding the asparagus bed before mulching and there are several plants that I don’t recognise. They are broadly where I planted the crowns so I haven’t pulled them up in case they were something to do with the Asparagus. Are they weeds? Assistance appreciated. Thanks.

I think they are Aquilegias. Not a weed.

Thanks. The Asparagus patch probably is not the place for them however. Best re-located then this weekend.

    Thanks again.

Aquilegia.   Good for pollinators when they flower in May/June depending on where you are.

If self sown they may be very bonny but they may also just be a dull, muddy pink which is what happens when they cross and revert.  Transplant, grow on and then decide if yo want to keep them when you see the flowers.

  • Aquilegia, I have this beautiful plant all over my garden. Self seeds everywhere but very beautiful. Can be easily pulled up.

I have it everywhere too dancindufas .......but don’t find it easy to pull up - it has a massive tap root that required a garden fork and brute force to get out yesterday 😝. Agree it is pretty in the right place, but a bit of a pain when it self seeds in the crown of your favourite paeony 😫
