I also think it looks great and not at all self indulgent, it is really nice to see you come back and update, and as Lyn mentioned.

In our garden we had a large patch of  building sand which was apparently where the builders had their mixer.
I did what you did and mixed a bit of clayey soil and a little compost initially because it was literally pure sand to start with.
I had lovely patches of Harebell that thrived. Campanula rotundifolia which is  Perennial, if you don't have it on your list already.

We have a patch of self seeded ox-eye daisy growing in tarmac.  Your wild flower mix looks lovely.

Marigolds and nasturtiums would probably do well, and you only need to sow them once.  I have squillions of seeds from my marigolds, if you'd like some, send me your address in a PM.

Hello everyone this was late June.
I wanted you to see it in it’s glory 😁
thank you all very much for your suggestions and encouragement.
My brain wasn’t doing very well this last few months but feeling on the mend.
It was lovely to peep out of my front window every morning and see what else had popped up.

That looks lovely, you must be delighted. Are you getting lots of wildlife visiting?

Yes absolutely - there were bees buzzing around all the time and it had cabbage butterflies and I saw a monarch once!
My neighbours also told me that the street loved my mini ‘meadow’ and that more people will sow wildflowers.

Next year I want to sow wildflowers around the street trees too on my road. Will be nicer than the weeds there are now as I’m a bit more confident now  :)

I've just bought a packet of wild flower seeds, having seen some great mini meadows on roundabouts, roadside verges and around Manchester uni. hopefully they will look good this time next year 🙂

This is what it looks like know. Around the edges you can see it is basically a mixture of hardcore and not really very much clay soil.
It is south facing - I lifted up the pacers hoping to find soil but instead it hardcore, a layer of membrane and then concrete broken up in some bit.
I think you can grow wildflowers anywhere!!!
