Not sure about the cling film, I wonder if it might exclude too much air? A clear plastic bag thats a bit baggy, but but tucked in, if you know what I mean, is what I normally use. Maybe others have used clingfilm... Slum makes some good points, I think just keep an eye on them and if it looks as if the compost is drying out on the top, mist then rewrap them.

@gutties I am still learning, still regularly get it wrong, and I have been sowing seeds for 25 years. Main thing is, enjoy it. I think most seed companies suggest sowing too early, I suppose they make more money if people fail.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I think the seed companies forget that not everyone has a greenhouse to continue growing on. If you have room a plastic mini greenhouse for moving plants into in April is a good way to go, then you have good sized plants already hardening off ready for planting out late May.
Once germinated, my plan is to put the plants upstairs in my garage where I have a big skylight (as well as a window on the gable). So while I know this isn't as good as a greenhouse I'm hoping that it'll allow me to pot on my seedlings.
Out of interest i bought a thermometer to judge the temperature in the upstairs garage. Last week I had a maximum of 14 degrees and a low of 7 degrees, so I'm thinking that temperature wise it should work OK. I just hope the light is good enough; I guess I'll find out in the next 2 months!
I have found that using cling film draws the seeds towards it like a magnet when they start to germinate. So I use a clear baggy polystyrene bag.but also if you have a " wilkos " in your area they sell the clear kids to go over a large seed tray or two smaller ones placed in a large tray. But empty the water every other day depending on the seed.might need emptying each day.
