Clematis to extend season of Cornus Mas

i have read somewhere that a Clematis can be grown alongside a Cornus Mas to extend
their season.  Does anyone know which Clematis would be ideal for this? Ideally one which can be cut down to ground level before the Cornus Mas comes into flower in February (in my garden]. Many thanks

Have a look at group 3 clematis.  They're the ones that you prune hard in early spring (I think you can do the same with group 2 if you're prepared to lose the first flush of flowers).

I guess they'd work with my Forsythia too? Not a brilliant plant (though cheering this time of year on a miserable day), but it's in the right spot to "work" architecturally.
