Sunflowers

I planted a sunflower seed in 5 pots a few weeks ago. They are now about 5" tall. Can I plant them in the garden now or should I leave them in pots in the greenhouse?

Help please.

They’re a hardy annual so unless we get a particularly cold snap they should survive the weather. It does seem a bit early though. If you’re in the south and have a sheltered, sunny spot I’d say you give them a go outside.
  • Many thanks. I am on the south coast so hopefully they should be ok.

When I plant mine out I give them individual cloches made by cutting the bottoms out of the large plastic fizzy water/lemonade-type bottles  ... pushed down into the soil about an inch it keeps the slugs and snails away. Remove the screw cap to allow ventilation 👍

To jump on the back of this, I've bought a couple packets of sunflower seeds and am looking to sow into pots shortly.

Have read that to get the best out of them it's best to sow directly where you want them to be. Anyone tried this and compared?
