John Innes Number 3 alternative?

    If your local shops have bags of topsoil, then get one of those and then mix if 50/50 with a multi-compost one. It will do just as well.

    Remember that John Innes 1,2,3 etc is just a formulation of different proportions of sterilised (weed free) loam, sand, grit, peat (or peat substitute)  & feed. If you have some No 2 just put a bit more feed & grit for drainage, or any of the suggestions already given.
