Beginners Question - Do I Need To Replace The Top Soil?

    Hi Kris, not to worry, we all know how life gets in the way ! Purplerallim makes a good point about conifers and wind, personally l would go with something else. I've posted a link below from the RHS which lists various evergreen shrubs and the average heights they get to. Sorry it's such a lot, but they may give you some ideas. Obviously they don't get to, say, one metre and then stop growing  (if only !), life would be much easier! And l'm sure you will get plenty more suggestions on here.
    As Fidget bones says, preparation is the key, make sure the soil is dug over and fed before any planting. Finally,  now you have mentioned it, l can see the buried "log roll" edging. Again this is my personal opinion,  but l would remove that and just have a neat edge along the lawn. Makes it much easier when it comes to mowing.  :)
