our numbers are pretty steady as well and the food is going fast (although lots get chucked)  I would hazard a guess that 'your' birds are feeding elsewhere but hopefully they will be back soon.

  • I think they must have found better food elsewhere. It's odd, because the black sunflower seeds always attracted them, I even had bullfinches.  Then just when I had decided to bulk-buy the seeds, they all boycott my garden  ....  they'd better come back!

For some of the smaller birds, a long trip to a feeder takes a lot of energy and they will change their visiting routes if a particular feeder is not filled for a few days.  The good news is that they will eventually come back, especially when breeding begins in earnest.

My 3 are emptied quickly and I find it amusing how the birds sort through the seeds chucking the ones they don't want over their shoulders, they do like sunflower hearts. At least the ground feeders get some then. I'm very pleased with my Apollo feeders - really easy to take apart to clean.

Changed to Robin and blackbirds mix a couple of weeks ago and there isn't a crumb left. Niger seed is steadily going down and sunflower hearts are still the favourite.  The fat balls in the last two weeks are going faster too after being ignored for months.
