Right climber for my garden

Hi All,

I have spent hours hours researching the right type and I hope you can suggest some which might fit my stringent criteria

1) I need a climber to cover a wall which rises by about 50cm in the soil side and then falls about 250cm on the other side (West side)
2) I need a non invasive roots as the depth of the soil is about 1meter and beyond which is concrete and then a basement. Otherwise I can try to get a large pot which contains the roots.
3) I am London based so hoping I get something which lasts all year long and does not shed leaves
4) Fragrant flowers are a must. Preferably all year round or otherwise combination of vines which lets me maximise this
5) The west side of the wall gets a lot of wind and sometimes really strong wind. East side will nit get any sun and west side will get evening sun

I know I am being picky here but would really appreciate any advise on the varieties possible

I can't quite picture that situation @Deveshmittal.devesh . Is it possible to post a photo please?  Is the wall in the middle of the garden or to one side and which side do you want to plant?

I also can't imagine it. You have soil, then a 50cm wall, and then you want to train it 2.5m down? Is it something like a garden on two levels? Could you plant it down, under the wall?

The 1m soil depth is fine, so you want a climber to train up and over a short 50cm wall and down the other side which is about 8 or 9 feet ..

Try Solanun crispum 'Glasnevin'... evergreen, slightly scented, and flowers from May to September usually...  no problem in London..

  • Indeed it is a garden on two levels. I am traveling right now so can’t post a picture. Unfortunately it cannot be planted under the wall
