Apple tree cuttings in water method

  • I succeeded in geťtng one tree from all the  cuttings I tried. That tree is doing well.

However, I moved on from the water method. The best option I tried is air layering. It takes about 6 months, but on the one I tried there were apples on it the following year! Marble sized, but none the less it is a great result. Check out air layering on Y tube, lots of guide clips on there.
  • Hello,
I have recently watched about 3-4 videos on you-tube. Unfortunately they were mostly from USA!
However, because I am disabled and fiscally challenged about buying new Apple trees etc...I am going to give it a good try too !
My neighbor has the most beautiful tasting apples growing in his garden and I would love to continue its life by growing the same in my garden! I am also thinking , if it works they will make the most amazing Cider!
The apples from his tree are the most delicious I have ever tasted !

I'm not usually a big apple eater but I do look forward to Autumn for his apples!
Not sure of the Species ? Because his late father (a truly wonderful man, bless him) grew the tree from scratch years ago!
Anyway, I would love to keep you informed of my trial and I will post photo's in the new year.
Good luck to all and happy growing !

I am pleased that you are willing to have a go at 'air layering'. Do not be deterred by the fact that most of the air layering vid clips are from the USA. I would imagine  that the majority  of clips collectively come ffrom USA-it is a large country.

I look forward to details of your progress.

PS: I am a little intrigued by your forum name. Do the keys on your keyboard often get jammed down, or are you simply Welsh?
