Daffodils

Can anyone advise use please.  My daffodils are all flowering but have started to flop over. Have I planted them too shallow or is the usual for daffodils and narcissus.  All the miniature  ones like tete a tete and jetfire are flowering and still upright.

You should have about three inches of soil above the top of a daffodil bulb when planting. Miniatures can cope with half that.

I’m I’m looking for some support tools to help them.  It’s the strong wind battering mine flat I think.
  • I support my tall daffodils with prunings from shrubs and trees, they blend in better than garden canes and can support the stems without having to be tied in.
Tall daffodils tend to lean into the light, that, along with the wind, can cause problems.
When planting make sure you plant at a depth of about twice the height of the bulb, too shallow can cause the bulb to throw up 'blind' shoots and no flowers.

Do you know why that happens?

Thanks for the advice.  I like the idea of using prunings so will try that out.

@yorkshirerose Long list of causes for daffodil blindness on that RHS list! Amazing we get any of them to flower
  • You have to talk to them nicely as you plant them  it works wonders. :)

We only plant the Tete a Tete's they are smaller and able to take buffeting, most of ours came from decanted hanging baskets, we have them spread about the garden.
