    My first thought was a woodie, but the OP seemed pretty sure that it wasn’t ...  :/

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Pinky beige? It looks more like a Collared Dove to me.
    Dark lower edges to the wings wing tips.
    You might not have seen a dark neck ring if it was fluffed or hunkered down from the rain.
    A little smaller than a wood pigeon.

    I would have said a wood pigeon also but there seems to be too much white on its head and bib, but then again you do get birds with different markings than usual. I don't think its a collard dove, too much grey.
