Weeding around my yew hedge

    That sounds like it. Okay well I'm going to give that a go. I might try boiling water too if I find time. They are a very common nuisance apparently!

    I love hearing about the sheer doggedness people have with destroying a weed! :)
  • Yes Jozilla those are invasive bluebells.  I have inherited them in our new garden and this is my experience.  Glyphosphate doesn't do a thing, as previously mentioned. I saw the article about squishing the leaves but for the last few years I have made sure that 1. I remove all the flowers as soon as possible, because, at the very least, you don't want to increase the numbers, and 2. I pick the leaves by hand at that time or slightly later and try to pick out what I call the core of the previously flowering plants as well as any other flowerless plants.  In other words, the long white stem that leads to the bulb. There is then nothing above ground. There has been a noticeable reduction in the number of flowers the following years.  The leaves are numerous but I'm hoping maybe the bulb will die? That's what I was researching when I came across this article.
