    I gave in,  another Eustacia Vye ordered ! @Marlorena, thanks for that. Can l please pick your brain? I see it is suitable for growing in a pot, can you advise re pot size , compost etc? Much appreciated  :)

    @AnniD
    Hi Anni... for this type of rose a minimum pot size would be 18 ins by 18 ins [45cm x 45cm], but if you can get one, and manage one, that is larger than that, so much the better...  my preferred pot is actually smaller across the top but much deeper... it's a 16 ins x 24 ins - nice and deep for those roots, and it's made out of some lightweight black resin material... I struggle with heavy glazed pots these days..  but anything less than 18 x 18 inches is on the small side for a rose of 4 x 3 foot..

    You do need to use a John Innes no. 3 compost for roses, but this is too heavy and poorly drained to use on its own.. so mix 50/50 with your brand of multi purpose plus suitable fertilizer like Toprose..

    I make up my own mix which is this..
    JI no. 3 50/50 with quality MP
    2 scoopfuls of composted manure
    2 scoopfuls of horticultural grit or pea gravel
    a couple of small handfuls of inorganic fertilizer

    ...but you don't have to copy this...   I hope you enjoy your rose, I'm so looking forward to these new roses..

    Oh go on... there's always room for one more... your garden is going to look gorgeous, I do hope you'll take lots of photos...

    Thank you very much @Marlorena.l have made a note of that, and will be down the garden to the pot store with a tape measure when it stops raining! Thanks again  :)

    I sometimes wonder if DA roses justify the price premium. Over the years i ve tried quite a few of them and tbh found some very disappointing (like Sharifa Asma and Harlow Carr). Most of the descriptions on DA website are very similar (& generic) and almost every rose has that ‘myrrh’ fragrance!

    I know DA probably invest a lot in reserach and branding but still I wouldn’t buy the DA roses just based on description on their website. This year i am planing to visit Peter Beales roses GC in Norfolk, which are better priced and good range.

    Tempted, I got a code with my catalogue too. Ive seen lots of posts on Facebook of people picking up DAs from garden centres with 50% off, one poster found some reduced to £7!

    Very jealous, no offers like that near me.

    I think I've got enough going on in the garden now for this year though.

    have three new fruit trees planted as cordons, the next tier on my apple tree espalier, a wisteria to try and grow as a standard, 11 new roses, 5 of them them Austins, a new vegetable bed, and I've got loads of new perennial seedlings growing on the kitchen windowsill to plant eventually.

    I'll see how things go this year, but I would still like some more roses eventually if I can fit them in to our tiny garden.

    They've got lovely new growth on them already, especially the Generous Gardener which is covered in leaves

    A keen gardener, I hope it all goes well for you, you have a lot going on there which is fun..
    I've got their roses half price before... about September time in some garden centres..  Wyevale as I recall.... I got a Graham Thomas for £3 from a local outlet...

    Beales also do 50% off at various times..

    @Umairahmed3
    It's good to shop around... I didn't enjoy Harlow Carr, it was just too thorny for me... I love the myrrh scent but prefer the damask scented roses...

    I wish Beales would bring their new roses out sooner... It's usually the Chelsea Flower Show and by then I've bought all mine for the year...
    Enjoy your visit... they've modernised their plant centre due to a grant from the E.U. - I think it needed doing...  try and see their gardens if you have time...

    @Umairahmed3 why don’t  you don’t like it? @Marlorena. Agree Harlow Carr is very throrny and impossible to prune (without ripping bits).

    In our garden it’s been the foremost performer amongst several other roses. Never without a flower and the first flush is phenomenal... literally covered in flowers. Additionally it is in a pot in a north facing side....

    Because Harlow Carr is very thorny, flowers are pretty small in size and i dont like their shape or fragrance. The stems are a bit on thinner side. Pictures on DA website were a bit deceiving. That’s it 🙂
