I think I must have planted my tulips too deep

I've never seen this before - petals emerging directly out of the soil before any leaves or stem appear.

    I always get a couple of the early ones like that, they shouldn't be up yet, it’s early for tulips. 
    Maybe those weren’t deep enough.

    I remember years ago AT chatting to an old lady about her tulips and what was her secret to getting them to come back year after year.  She planted them all at least 9" deep.   I suspect that being deep is not the problem.

    I think it is nearly impossible to plants Tulips too deep.
