Dividing Asters

Novice23Novice23 Posts: 200
Is it too  early to start digging up and dividing asters?   I have a large clump that did not do well last year, they had a space in the middle of the plant, so I think is in need of splitting, but don't want to do it too early.   Can anyone advise please?

Spring is the best time to divide asters, so that they can get new roots on the go, and build up for flowering in the autumn. Depends whether you class us as being in Spring yet, l personally would give it a couple more weeks.  :)
  • So would I AnniD - I am also sorely tempted to split some of my perennials too, but I am holding back.  The temperature here is due to dip in the next few days - perhaps wait until the end of March Novice23

Gosh thank you both for such speedy replies and will take your advice and wait a little longer.   There are no signs of shots yet, so end of March it is.  Thanks again
