I sow mine in paper pots that I make, at the end of April if the weather is ok and they’ve grown strong enough, I’ll plant them out, no root disturbance.  (This usually goes into May due to late frosts.)  The paper pots I make for onions and leeks are much deeper than flower pots.

Just transplanted "some " of the seedlings into paper pots just as an experiment to see how they fare against the ones in the 3" plastic pots

Its all very exciting !! o:)

Mine fare ok. Just done some more today.  Takes a while to make the pots but once you’re used to it, it gets much quicker and it’s free and clean. All biodegradable.

    Thanks All

Took the accumulated advice and all of the seedlings are now 4" wide onions soon to be pulled and I got a compliment from our Site Manager who gives out 3 a year !!

Dont you love it when a plan comes together !
