African violet leaves losing color/yellowing

My african violets leaves recently started losing their color/turning brown and I’m not sure what is happening. The plant is in a self watering pot, and is in a south facing window. I thought it might be the leaves getting too much sun but I’m unsure. It also recently just started to flower again. Would appreciate any advice!

    Hi there @linlong16,

African violets... they are absolutely gorgeous and very, very fussy!  :)

They prefer bright but indirect light, so a south facing window may be too intense for it.

You may find the Dibley's Nurseries care page about Saintpaulias and other similar plants useful http://www.dibleys.com/gesbeg.htm

Hope this is of some help - sorry my reply isn't any more detailed, but my experience is rather limited with these little plants.
I grew some when I was child, which always inevitably died as I didn't keep up the proper care regime, however I intend to order a couple of Saintpaulias in the spring and try again with them.

    All the best

I agree with pbff, a south facing window will be too harsh for them. Keep it somewhere with a bit of light but not direct light. Not sure what a self watering pot is, but I suggest you check the soil. It's very likely your plant could be dehydrated for certain periods and this inconsistency in watering can affect the leaves.
  • @pbff Thank you for the reply! That is what is suspected just wanted some advice.
  • @Borderline thank you for the reply! I have moved it out of the window and hopefully its leaves will see some better days. Also on self watering pot I meant I use a wick to water it from the roots, so it typically maintains a good moisture level at all times.

I wondered if the leaves had been splashed with water and then got the sun on them, but if they're only watered from below then just too much sun.
Once it starts growing good new leaves you can take off the damaged ones (back to the main stem).
