Lawn renovations
Hiya all,
My rear lawn is a bit untidy following my moss removal activities last year. It is now uneven and bumpy with many bald patches.
I have today spiked about 1/3 of it and, as long as the good weather continues, now intend to start patch repairs to level it up a bit.
Given the excellent unseasonal weather we are having (15 C here today) it is easy to get carried away and proceed to overseed the repairs but I'm wondering, is it too early to lay grass seed ?

Just another day at the plant...

It’s an ideal time to grass seed your lawn. Most lawns, including my own will need repairs to bare patches due to raking off moss. To level off bumps I would buy a few bags of top soil or sieve some of your existing soil from your boarders to use. Even at this time of year the new grass seed will need watering on a regular basis unless we get wet weather.
Also, you will loose seed to birds but in a few weeks with the soil warming up, you should see new growth appearing
I plan to patch with a 50/50 mix of sharp sand & recovered sieved topsoil, just wasn't entirely sure that I should good ahead and seed yet. You have given me the decisive little nudge in the right direction.
I am fortunate to garden on good fertile loamy soil so hopefully should see prompt new growth as you say.
cheers

I'd not seed anything now. Do the prep work, get the level evened out, bring in topsoil or top dressing/conditioner and rake it through.
When was the moss control work done? Did you do it yourself? Moss control should always be timed to allow for proper lawn recovery afterwards. One reason why I simply cannot ever suggest anyone use a national lawn firm to do it (they favour Dec-Feb for scarifying as it fills a space in their schedule!).
