Marigold and nasturtium seeds

Good morning world. Every year I grow these plants from seed on a windowsill in the house with no problems, this year however I have inherited a young cat who insists on knocking anything off a windowsill. Will these seeds take off if I purchase a plastic 4 tier small greenhouse outside and keep it closed at all times. Trivial question I know but I don't want to waste my time thanks

Hi Marc- nasturtiums can be direct sown, and usually fare better if they are, so save yourself a bit of time, money and effort and wait for another month to sow them in the spots where you want them instead  ;)
I don't grow marigolds, but I expect a little plastic growhouse, or even better - a cold frame, would be ideal for them.
Someone else who grows them will be able to advise better on those though :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Of you're talking about calendula, they can be planted outside too.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • I plant marigolds every year. The marigolds self seeded around the garden and some have already germinated, even after a layer of snow. l'll move them later to where I want them. Best to direct sow where you want it. Very easy flowers to grow and not at all fussy

Both can be sown direct and if you let them self seed will return each year. I wait for the seedlings to come up before transplanting them to where I want them to grow then weed out the rest. Their leaves are easily recognisable.
