Strelitzia Reginae In Trouble

Another casualty from the greenhouse of doom.

It's gone a bit brown. This wasn't left on the greenhouse floor. It was on some trellis, 4ft or so from the floor.

I'm hoping it can be saved but it was only in its first year so it can be replaced if not.

They need to be brought indoors for the winter, that’s showing signs of cold damage and maybe it’s been watered?  Should be dryish  through the winter.
wait until it starts to shoot out new leaves and cut the old ones off.

  • Thanks for that.

I am thrilled to tell you that there were 2 new leaves on it this morning and it was touching the sloped greenhouse roof. So hopefully all is not lost.

EDIT - Just looked at the photo and it was already touching the greenhouse roof.

    Cheers
  • I'm not sure if i have cut it properly or not. Is this right ?

👍🏻  That’s all I do, personally, I can’t stand the plants but my mum grew it from a seed so I can’t bring myself to dump it,  it got 4 flowers this winter,  not all at once, 2 then another 2.

One other point here ; Strelitzias enjoy being out in full-sunshine during the Summer months .
Like a lot of 'indoor' or conservatory plants ; the combination of  sun and air-circulation plus the occasional deluge makes for a healthy plant .
Just remember to bring in before the nights get too cool .
