Advice for a new Gardner/veg grower

Just wanted a little advise as a new Gardner.

Yesterday I purchased a raised garden bed with liner and mesh (photo below).  I have planted some onions and carrots and wanted to know how long I should leave the rain cover on?

I have also planted some seeded potatos in pots, can I leaves these uncovered in the garden? (garden location is berkshire)

Thank you in advance!

Did you plant onion sets or sow seeds?

If you watered the bed well before sowing or planting and then a little afterwards to settle the soil, you should be able to leave the cover on to keep the soil warm and encourage growth.   Check every few days for growth and the need to water but otherwise leave the cover on as long as possible to protect the young plants against frosts which can be quite hard up to the end of March or mid April, depending on where you are.

  • Thank you for all the very useful links and advice :) the onions were from sets and just to complicate things carrots are from seeds

That's the usual way for onions and carrots don't come as sets or like being transplanted.
