another hedging question

Also in that front garden is some privet. When is the best time to prune it? Last year I did it by hand and was able to prune around the flowers but this year I have a hedge trimmer. I don't want to prune off the buds. Am I too late? Do I need to wait until after flowering? thanks

Privet usually needs trimmed regularly through the growing season to keep it smart. That will largely depend on your own growing conditions [soil etc] and your climate. Lots of rain = lots of growth. Our privet in a previous garden got done about four times a year.

You can do it at any time, but best to wait until there's no more frosts. You won't harm it though, it'll produce new growth even if some gets a frosting. It's fairly indestructible  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

thank you, I pruned it yesterday, bit of a dog's dinner (my first time using an electric trimmer) but as you say, indestructible, hope it does flower
