Debbie Pitman

I have a very established virbunum tinus plant for the last two weeks it’s strated going brown at the moment it’s only the top half it looks unsightly any idea please

    Are you in a cold / exposed region Debbie ? sounds like cold damage or scorched by a cold wind ? any Pictures ?

    Agree with Perki.
    They don't mind being cut down as low as you want or need.
  • No not in a cold part at all it’s been absolutely fine for the last seven years I’m in the southeast of England

    All shrubs drop foliage now and again. Do you mean the foliage is brown, or the main stem ?
    Animal pee could be a cause too, but some pix would help  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • It’s not dropping foliage it’s turning brown and I have uploaded a photo it’s just not showing it was but don’t known why it isn’t now

    Hard frost?  I had 3 of these wiped out by frosts in my Belgian garden, along with several dwarf conifers, an eleagnus and a choisya.  Mind you, that was a -32C extreme.

    If no new buds appear on the affected stems, just cut them all out and give it a feed and see if it recovers.

  • Yes im thinking to just give it a good prune the majority of the plant is fine it’s just the top I’ll try and see what happens l
