Dying conifer

Haven't been up the garden since before Christmas but today I've been up and saw that our 7ft golden conifer which looks perfect from the house is black on the bottom 3 foot. Upset is putting it politely. Is it a lost cause I'm thinking it is

    It may well be a gonner Marc, the brown bits won’t grow back, but give it a while and see if there is any sign active growth in the top 4ft. You could prune off the dead stuff below and turn it into a lollipop shape. Nothing ventured...

    If the top/ends of the branches are OK you could experiment with cloud pruning.

    Or prune off the dead stuff and plant other things in front/around it to hide the bottom part.

    Update. The tree is no longer a tree. To my dismay the tree was dead inside just the outside tips were green. It was well and truly knackered 😡😢😢😡

    Lots of conifers are brown inside when you look and they are still fine.

    The bottom 4 foot of a 7 foot tree was brown and very very dry and brittle
