2questions

Hello I don't post on here much any more as I find the site so frustrating to use& I really miss the good advice! 2questions; I have 3delohimiumz I bought late last summer still in pots, I think at least 2are dead, what should I do/have done? Also at our allotment we have spoke, plum& pear trees, all inherited, no idea of varieties, when we got lots of plums they were infested with plum moth, apples& pears very scabby but a few good ones, I don't use chemicals, I pruned back last year for the 1st time I think in years, I was going to use tree wash but the price put me off, I know it's late to apply it but could anyone advise on s home made version& any other advice on healthier crops please? Thankyou in advance

Sorry rosemummy is that first plant you are asking about Delphiniums?
I have a wayward keyboard at times too.
Could slugs have got them ? If it is delphiniums they love them. And depending where you are they might only just be coming up, so there could be some life still under the soil.
Have you tipped them out of the pots to check?
Sorry cant help with the others.

Hi hi yes delphs! Yes we are slug central , I had the pots up in a hanging basket to overwinter for that reason, I gave 1a gentle pull& it came out roots& all straight away ( omg I didn't hack for vine weevil..!) I had a few good plants last year as I was mega vigilant but I cannot seem to grow them from seed do thought if I bought s couple& brought them on ready to plant out in spring it would work... Any advice on growing delphs from seed? Thanks again x

My delphinums grown from seed last year have died right down for the winter and showing no signs of coming through yet, but I know they will, give them a bit longer.

It sounds as though yours have got wet and have rotted.

I sow my delphinium seeds on the 1st August, prick out into separate pots, then keep them in a plastic greenhouse, keep in for the winter, then pot on until they are big plants, then I will plant them out  in the following Spring.  So seeds sown in August 2018 will get planted out in Spring 2020,   After frosts, so usually beginning of May ish.  By then they are big plants and can withstand slugs.

Just sow in a pot or small seed tray, barely covered.

Thanks Lyn think we mat have discussed this a long time ago... Put lots of grit in top & put pots in empty baskets to keep up out of the way, maybe it's time to give up& just admit defeat...☹️

They would have been better undercover for the winter so they didn’t get wet.   Don’t give up, never give up!
