Moving Lungwort?

Hi there.  I have a Pulmonaria Blue Ensign (Lungwort) that's currently in a pot, facing East.  My belief is that they're happiest in part-shade.  I'm wondering though, at this time of the year with the current lower light levels, whether it would prefer being South-facing?  I would of course move it back to part-shade once the hours of daylight really get longer.  Thank you in advance.  :)

They do best in deciduous shade so they have sun at flowering time, then shade. so moving the pot into sun now and shade in summer should work well

  • My Blue Ensign is in the ground, and currently gets no sun at all.  It seems perfectly happy - a bit later coming into flower than if it got more light, that's all.   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • @linzijayne74,..i agree with you that Lungworth is happiest in a part shade spot,..its classed as a Shade Plant,..however its a tough plant and will manage even drought for a spell,..i have some in two locations,.. both part shaded and with moist well drained soil  and both thriving,..yes by all means move your plant around as its in a pot and back to a shadier spot when the daylight really gets longer.

  • Hi @nutcutlet; apologies for the delay in replying.  It's reassuring to know that you think the same, so many thanks for your comment.  :)
  • Hi there @Liriodendron; sorry for the delay in replying.  Ah, you have a Blue Ensign too!  :).  I don't have any bare soil in any shady areas in our garden; we have slabs :( ... otherwise I would have planted mine in the ground.  I'm lucky in that any bare soil I do have faces South, so all's not lost.  I'm pleased to hear your Blue Ensign is doing well!  Thank you for your reply.  :)
  • Hello there @nultyphilip224, sorry for the delay in replying.  I'm reassured that you think it's ok to move my Lungwort around slightly, as I'd suggested.  I'd rather be able to plant it in the ground but I have no soil in shady/part-shady areas in our garden, so it has to be in a pot in these areas!  My Blue Ensign is now currently facing South but I shall move it back when the time's right.  There are already signs of life on it, so it may appreciate a bit of extra light at this time of the year!  Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.  :)
