Blackcaps taking over the bird feeders

I have been feeding birds in my garden for several years using 3 feeders containing sunflower hearts, fat balls and peanuts. Its been a complete joy to see the variety of birds that have come to the garden to feed over that time without any issues. Sadly in the last few weeks I have been adopted by a male and female Blackcap who have taken over the feeders and chase off any other birds who attempt to come near them. I have tried removing the feeders for a while to see if they move on to another garden but to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this behaviour? Any suggestions on how to persuade them to go elsewhere would be very gratefully received.

  • I think you’re very lucky ... there is no other bird singing in the daytime that sounds anything like as melodic as a male blackcap protecting his territory. Almost like a nightingale 🎶

The other birds will return when the nesting season disputes are settled. Meanwhile I would enjoy a rare treat ... deep envy from here.

  • Could you put up another feeder in a different position?  Expensive solution, but it might work...
