Bamboo ID

harmonyharmony Posts: 403
Hi, can anyone tell me which type of bamboo this is. It was in a pot for a couple of years and started to look sad so I transplanted it to the top of my garden a year ago. It is now looking happier but I can't make up my mind which bamboo it is as there are a few that look the same. The area has sun to about 2pm in summer and is very sheltered. Thanks

A Fargesia of some sort, there are several selections, but very much suffering from lack of water, hence the shrivelled up foliage...

It looks better than it did but I will water regularly. With it being in a pot before its growth will have been restricted, I wonder how tall/wide it could grown now its in the ground.

I have grown a few of these... it may be the one called Fargesia mureliae 'Jumbo', in which case it will grow to about 5 foot in so many years...  you won't need to water it so much once it's established... look out for, or listen for, grasshoppers in summer as they enjoy hopping around on these plants...
