please help

hi guys does anyone think this is an issue, it's an oak tree with a hollow inside, it feels solid but could it pose future problems, i've put my long clippers in to show how fat it goes back

  • In the absence of a picture...  mature oak trees are often hollow inside, and can remain stable and beautiful for several hundred years.

    This (as Liriodendron states) is perfectly normal ; have you visited the 'Major-Oak' in Sherwood Forest ?

    As the woodland trust link says hollow trees are great for wildlife so be careful what you stick in there. I've seen hornets and wasps nesting in them as well as colonies of wild bees. Old oak trees support thousands of species in various ways and there can be some very interesting things living on the outside as well as in the hollow trunk.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    i appreciate your warning, i did have a little look prior to poking into the tree. i will bear all your comments in mind thanks for the info.!
