Can anyone tell me what this is on my rhodendrons? I have a large rhodendron next 2 2smaller ones that are infected & really dont want the large one getting whatever it is!
I think your 2 smaller rhododendrons with the "fur" on are Rhododendron yakushimanum hybrids. They always have that furry layer on their new leaves - especially underneath. It's perfectly normal and won't spread to your large rhodie. If you Google photos of Rhododendron yakushimanum you'll see they look exactly like yours.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
You're welcome! It does look a bit odd, but I think the "fur" may provide frost protection for the young leaves... they originate from a small Japanese island. Aren't plants interesting!

They really are! There was me thinking something was very wrong with them! But i was surprised as my large one hadnt been “affected” at all! So makes complete sense now i know! Thxs again!
