Sprouting in bags.. ahh!

My first lot of plants arrived today - mostly lupins and peonies. Lots of them are sprouting in the bag... Even though the earliest recommended planting is March.

I am a complete novice and I don't know if this is really bad, or if I can do anything about it.

Any advise for those wiser is much appreciated.

You could pot them up individually in multi purpose compost. Once you have done that, keep them in the light but cool and undercover. They can be planted out in a month or so when the weather improves.

If you have a window in the utility that would be fine. I grow on most of my plants in a back porch. As long as it's cool and light they should be ok.

I should have added that there are no stupid questions around here. That's how we learn.

  • Not "uncover" but "under cover", Purpleandpinks.  Meaning protected from frost, because the little plants are starting to grow earlier than they would do, if they had spent all their life in your garden, and their new shoots are too tender to cope with the great outdoors at this time of year.   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Thank you - I understand what you mean now by undercover! I was picturing a tarp over it!! Sorry for all the typos, not sure what's happened there.
