Pruning Camilias

I have a Camilla in a pot it's healthy and has lots of buds on but it's got leggy and I was wondering can and how to prune. I know to wait until the flowering had finished.

    Hi stocsus,
Can you describe where you are keeping it.
They usually do quite well in a shaded spot.
Is it possibly indoors or in a sheltered porch where it is warm.
Too much warmth and not enough light would probably be the reason.

I am not sure how you prune them, I have only tipped a few branches to an outward facing bud on my only one.
  • Hi, it's kept on the patio next to my pond it has plenty of light and has fence panels to the side and back. These help with keeping the wind off somewhat. There is shade from the fence and a large laurel tree. It's just got leggy and I wasn't sure how to prune it...
  • We prune our camellia bushes after they have flowered and before they produce new shoots, so around May/June time, depending when the flowers fade and fall.  Take out anything that is dead right down to the main stem/trunk and prune the rest to give a nice shape to the plant.
  • In a word: DON'T, unless it's dead or broken.
Everyone likes butterflies. Nobody likes caterpillars.

I think Prince Charles might have something to say about you having Camilla in a pot and claiming she's leggy. :D
  •  :) 😂😂
  • Thanks for the advice will wait until the flowers have dropped and then see what needs doing...
