Pruning espalier apple trees

I didn't manage to finish pruning my espaliers at the back end.  The instructions I was following say this can be done up to end March "while the trees are dormant".  However, I have just looked at them and can see buds all over them.  Will it harm them if I cut back now?

  • Buds are fine provided they're not bursting.  It depends where you live, and what the weather does, how late you can get away with pruning.  Around here, we're definitely ok into March.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Thanks, L.  Am in Bucks.  Freezing cold/snow here last week but sunny and warm today.  Buds are elongated and not about to burst so I'll have a go this afternoon which may not be long enough to do them all.
