  • From the above, it seems in fairly short supply even then ... 😉

    There is of course Xa Tollemache who married ‘Helmingham Hall’ was taught to garden by the gardener there and who has since won Gold and silver gilts at Chelsea ... not a trained garden designer at all ... but she’s proved the naysayers wrong ...

    It seems to me that there has been a huge rise in  the number of female garden designers winning at Chelsea recently, certainly compared with , say, 20 or 30 years ago. 
    This is surely to be welcomed?
    Gertrude Jekyll never "trained" as a garden designer, but she wasn't half bad.
