    Hi @Steve the Gardening Vet,

    This astilbe does really well for me in damp/sunny spots .... it's not evergreen, but hangs on to it's flowers stems which look nice throughout the winter. Our honeybees love it, and so do lots of other pollinators.

    Bergenias are very adaptable plants, they do indeed thrive in shade, but in sun with damp/wet soils, they will also do fine there. Flowering tends to be a bit earlier and possibly shorter than if they are in shade, but with so many to choose from, some will flower for longer.
