Golden willow

Has anybody grown golden willow in a wet soil? I know most willows love the wet, but the RHS site says "moist but well drained" for golden willow, while they allow "poorly drained" for other willows.

I'd like to plant some alongside our stream where the soil is truly wet!

I had to Google Golden Willow, it's Salix alba var vitellina so is just a variety of White Willow. I think that grows anywhere except a desert

  • Thanks. Maybe the RHS forgot to add "poorly drained" to their entry?

I'll try a few (they're cheap as chips as bare-rooted whips) and see what happens. Mind you, last summer parts of the garden were turning into a desert

last summer was torture for some plants and torture to watch them suffering.

  • Indeed. Muggins here planted lots of bare-rooted shrubs and trees in the spring - and spent the summer evenings watering trying to keep them alive ...

I planted several new shrubs as well.. The two most neglected did best, A Cistus that was rarely watered and one of the grey leafed Hebes that was hiding under weeds and got forgotten after the first few weeks
