    I am not sure if it would be suitable or what you want because of the pruning.
    But I found Alpina type clematis which are spring flowering suggested for exposed positions and they can apparently also take some degree of salty exposure.

    Their roots will also take a drier position than the ones with big bootlace type roots like group 2, they have finer roots and do not like winter wet feet.
    Some do flower with a second smaller flush later in the year.

    I tentatively suggested them to a friend who gardens very close to the sea, after researching them for her. She bought and grew C. alpina Blue Dancer. It looked better than mine inland.  She is a good gardener though.
    Perhaps you might have a gap or end of wall you could trial one.
