Please can you recommend shrubs with bold colour flowers in summer time? Than kyou

Posts

  • Hydrangeas, shrub roses, weigela, broom, and, if you can provide the right conditions, Hibiscus and Oleanders.
  • Thank you Buttercupdays! :)
  • Pieris Japonica species are beautiful in early spring with red, oranges, silver and pink coloured foliage and Lilly of the Valley type flowers. A must if you have acidic soil, if not then plant in a good sized pot with ericaceous compost
  • Apologies, as you are requesting summer flowering shrubs

Take a look at Abelia 'Edward Goucher', a good all-rounder shrub that stays more or less evergreen and a long flowering time. Good for semi shade spot.

If you have free draining soil and a very sunny position, Caryopteris x Clandonensis will add late blue colour into autumn time. Easy to care, just prune down in early spring and new fresh growth returns.

Buddleia - comes in different shades of purple and lilac, and there's also a yellow one.  Fuchsias for late summer and autumn, a huge variety of flower forms and colours.
