Transferring bamboo plant

hi

i have just moved into a new house and there is a large bamboo plant planted in a very large pot which is then on top of soil at the rear of the garden. It’s probably at least 7 foot tall including the pot.
i want to remove the plant from the pot and re plant it in the soil, are there any issues with that? I know it will be heavy, do bamboo plants become out of control if in open soil?
thanks

    Hi Ryan and welcome :)

Yes, most of them do ... they invade your garden and all the neighbours' gardens too ... there's a reason why the last gardener there put it in a pot .... :o

  • You may struggle to move the pot as the roots may already have escaped through the drainage holes

Unless you know what type of bamboo it is, I agree with the others, don't remove it from its pot and replant it in the ground. Some Bamboo is notorious for underground roots which go a long way.
