Hello, just after some advise as I have noticed the new growth on our standard photinia red robin is abit holey and has black on it. Can anyone offer any advise please as on a whole the tree is healthy with lots of growth on it. Thanks in advance.

  • A photo would help, if you can take one (maybe not in the dark!) and post it on here...

It's quite common for fungal leaf spots to occur on Photinia shrubs. Your shrub looks quite healthy. I can't see whether you have it in a pot or in the ground. The spots are usually a sign of the conditions it is growing in.

Keep your shrub in a dry and sunny area and make sure the the soil free draining, it should recover. Try to collect and remove all fallen leaves around the base regularly to prevent damp conditions around the base. Give all the leaves that have the spots a trim in early summer to control it, and it is unlikely to take hold.
  • Thanks so much for your help and guidance borderline. It is in the ground, doesn’t seem to get waterlogged and seems to have good drainage but maybe I need to keep a closer eye on the soil conditions. Will follow your instructions and all shall be well come summer. Thanks again 😃
