Snow damage

We have had some snow that looks lovely but has damaged my wooden cold frame, knocking out the plastic in the roof with the weight of the snow. I have pansy seedlings in there. Any suggestions what I can do as I'm guessing they still need winter protection being so small?

  • If you can, I would put them on a house window sill as a temporary measure until the cold frame is repaired.  As a second choice perhaps you have a shed window sill or a table that you can place under the window - cover them with a cloche or similar to help keep any warmth in, remembering to take it off if the sun shines directly into the window. Turn the seedling pots/tray daily to give an even amount of light to the seedlings otherwise they will grow towards the light.
  • Thank you I will try that.

Just staple a big clear poly bag over the hole until you can repair it. The pansies will be fine. If the plastic roof has not cracked you should be able just to pop it back into place in a couple of minutes.
