Honeysuckle advice needed

Jed7Jed7 Posts: 11
If anyone can help, I would be grateful for a little advice regarding two 2 litre honeysuckle plants I’ve received today from T & M. Obviously the ground is too cold and hard to plant, so am I ok to leave the pots outside in a sheltered place until spring or should I keep them in the greenhouse till then? Thanks in advance.

They will be fine outside but I'd wrap the pots in bubble-wrap or similar to prevent the roots freezing.  It can get suprisingly warm in an unheated greenhouse even at this time of the year which would kick them into growth too early - you only want that to happen after they are planted into their final position.

Thanks for the advice. I have some bubble wrap left over in the greenhouse so I’ll pop out this afternoon and do that. I also bought a camellia a couple of weeks ago which I’ve left outside. I assume that the same would apply for any shrubs bought at this time of year?

Yes, the plants should be fine up against a sheltered wall of the house, but the pots themselves should be bubblewrapped to protect the roots against frost.
