I have a beautiful weeping acer in a large pot. I am looking to plant low flowering grasses or plants around the plot around the pot. Do you have any ideas? Many thanks
I've been planting mat forming sedums under my acers, stuff like s.acre or s.rupestre. I'd be worried that other plants would use up the pot water too quickly before the acer gets enough. They don't like drying out so be careful. With the sedums you can use a thick gravel top dress or pebbles to help keep the soil moist and they won't mind being ripped out when you repot the tree every couple of years. There's probably a lot of suitable alpines for the job or herbs like creeping thyme maybe.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
I have a similar large red acer in a pot. The pot has a 20” diameter so sufficient room for underplanting. I have planted 3 Carex Evergold that don’t grow to big and the contrast with the red foliage is very good. The Carex are evergreen so an all year showc

Any short grasses or plants will grow in the plot around the pot, just keep the actual pot well watered, but I can’t see the plants in the ground taking water from the acer pot.
