Escallonia planting query

AnniDAnniD Posts: 12,585
I have an escallonia in a pot that could do with being planted out. The forecast for the next 2 days is for mild weather (10 to 12 degrees ),  but then turning colder again for at least a week. Should I bite the bullet and get it in the ground,  or wait until the Spring?

It’s not the air temperature but the soil temperature that’s important.

Personally, if you’ve had some recent hard frosts, I think I’d leave it until the soil is less chilled.

Thanks Dove, I'm just getting a bit stir crazy, and I can see it in it's pot outside the window. Think I'll just do some general tidying up instead !

Too wet and slippy for me to want to go out there at the moment ... don’t want to do my knee in again.
Reading, knitting, cooking and drawing/painting keep me sane at this time of year ... plus a bit of plant planning of course  ;)
